The will to live
People simply giving up on life is a sign that something is fundamentally wrong with a society. And thus, Dutch woman, 29, granted euthanasia approval on grounds of mental suffering. Previously, I wrote about people choosing euthanasia due to poverty in Canada.
Everywhere I look, I’m bombarded by mental health hypochondria. At work, at professional conferences, in the ads of otherwise decent podcasts, casual conversations. People who are young, in decent health, great jobs, living in wonderful countries are constantly being told they are fragile, have a list of disorders, and that this is the worst society imaginable.
I don’t mean for this to sound like a moralistic harangue. It’s partly smart phones and social media. But it’s also the collapse of our traditional values and a shift to materialism while communities are breaking down. And it’s also the fact that many of the most high-paying jobs right now are deeply unfulfilling.
But looking past all that, this is also a golden age. It’s easy to forget that life is worth living.
